Do You Want to Grind? Respect the Game

One of the most common questions on online poker forums is what someone needs to do to make a living from poker. Putting aside the fact that few people actually make their entire income from poker, this question is a good starting point when we are talking about grinding. Grinding, of course, is the process of “grinding” your day away playing poker instead of devoting your day to other activities (like a regular office job). The key factor that distinguishes these grinders from other players is the fact that they respect the game. They do not see poker as a pleasant diversion or a fun thing to do when they have some spare time. They also don’t think of poker online as an easy process. They respect the power of poker to confuse you even when you have spent all day preparing. People who respect the game know that poker should be a serious business. These people study, prepare, and are ready for anything. One of the reasons that they are so very serious about this game is that they recognize that a bad beat can be extremely detrimental to their bankroll. They try to prepare for everything, but realize that some things are just out of their control. If you ever want to be a grinder, you need to learn that poker deserves this level of respect. Respect the game, and the game will respect you.

Don’t Learn Poker from Tv

I just played a online poker tournament this weekend, and I sat next to a guy who said that he’d never played a online poker tournament before, but he’d been watching on poker on television for years, and he made known that he’d learned more from poker on television than he figured he could have learned from actually playing it the whole time. After a few re-buys, he was the first one out of the game, and our table was a little bit richer. There are quite a few things that that television will not teach you about poker, but a huge misconception is that every hand is a playable one. Don’t play every hand. When you watch the World Series on television, they edit out the countless folds that players make between the hands that they actually play. This can give inexperienced players the impression that poker players play the majority hands that they’re dealt, and that players get great hole cards more often than they actually do. The guy to my right was no exception-he would enter hands with any hand that had a face card in it, he’d raise with middle pair, and he called every raise that he saw. I hope I see him in the next tournament, too.

Check Raising to a Draw

Poker players raise the bet to make other online poker players fold. Often players who are on a drawing hand, to a straight or a flush, will lay down their poker online cards. Sometimes though it pays to stay with the drawing hand because these can produce big pots. Typically a player in early position who hits a drawing hand on the flop will check with the hope of seeing a free turn card. It is unlikely though that no one will bet, especially if highly ranked cards hit the board. When a bet does come out from a player in later position, and you are on the draw to the nut flush or straight, then it might be worthwhile to re-raise, in effect executing a check raise on the original bettor. Often you’ll be heads up after that check raise, which is a great scare tactic, since it usually signals that a player holds a strong casino hand. By check raising the flop, you have set up a scare scenario for the turn card. If it misses you, and you check, your opponent has to wary of another check raise and you might just get to see the river card for free. Check raising to a draw is a semi-bluff that can build a big pot that you can potentially win. It can buy you free looks at the turn and river, and even win the hand outright. It can only be used sparingly and based on what you have observed about the opponent you are up against. Against tight players, you’ll have more success. Loose players may re-raise your raise, so proceed with caution against any loose aggressive players in late position.

Khoom Fay Thai Lanterns Set to Fly

Khoom Fay are traditionalistic Thai lanterns, with a bamboo frame covered by thin tissue paper. A flaming pod tied to the lantern provides hot airThey ascend gracefully, and create a wonderful spectacle, peculiarly when released at regular time intervals to form a string of lighters rising into the sky. They are every bit great by day or by nighttime. Night releases seem more suited to the classical white lanterns whilst Coloring lends itself nicely to Thai Lanterns released in the day but that is just my own personal view.Cautiously unpack the Thai Lantern, without tearing the delicate paper. Ensure the lantern is not wrinkled or hanging sideways and that it is full extensive.. Holding the height of the lantern is the well means to practice this, rising it a few feet gently, then sharply dropping it. Air force will amplify the unit.Grasp the lantern upright, and have a helper light the wick. After a few seconds the lantern will feel lighter, then gradually rising. Do not effort to throw it up into the air - just lead it and let it go by itself. Now relax and relish the showExperienced pyrotechnic operators are whom these lanterns are meant for. Wear gloves and fire-proof wear, and have on standby a bucket of water.

The All-in Move in Sit and Go Tournaments

The All-in move may be one of the most dramatic moves in the poker arsenal, but it has a limited function in sit and go tournaments. If you want to use this move, make sure you know when and how to use it most effectively.

Let’s start with the occasions where it is not appropriate to go all in. Anything in the beginning rounds of the poker tournament fall in this category. Do not, like some fish do, go all in when the blinds are still low. This just makes you look like a foolish player to your competitors. At the best all that will be lost is your ego, at the worst your chip pile will follow.

If you want to go all-in when playing in a sit and go tournament, the best time to do so is when you are on the bubble. Sometimes you need a dramatic move at this point to kick yourself into the money. If you need the chips to keep playing, going all in may be your only option to end up in the final three.

The All-in move has gotten a lot of media attention lately. Like most things in life, however, you shouldn’t believe the hype. Stick to basic skill and you will be much better off than if you try a move off of the television. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.

Table Games vs. House Games

I always get a little confused when friends want to make a trip to Vegas or any other casino city with the premonition of going not to play poker, but to gamble. Sure, there are tons of reasons one would want to travel besides playing cards, but when guys plan to go to a casino just to play table games like blackjack, roulette, and other events that pit them against the house, I have to wonder what it is that they intend on doing in the time they aren’t getting taken over by the odds.

Craps and other games that pit the online poker player against the house can be fun as entertainment, but really, if you aren’t going to the casino to play against other people instead of the house, odds are that you won’t come back a winner. The beauty of poker is that you don’t have to compete with odds set to, at the end f the day, bring all the money back to the bank.

At the end of the day, it’s a question of skill. The player with no skill is likely going to get eaten by better players at the online poker table, whereas the luck table, against the house, he at least has a chance. The difference between house and table games seems the real difference between the gamblers and the gamers: one plays for thrills, the other plays for competition.

Keeping Track

online poker provides quite a few benefits over playing a live game of poker. Among the benefits of playing online are personal preferences, such as being able to play in your boxers without repercussions, while others, are a bit more tangible. One of the benefits that playing online poker is that many sites allow you take notes on your and your opponents play. As any poker player knows, information is a huge factor when it comes to succeeding in poker, and taking notes on you and your opponents playing will keep you in the know. You can keep track of how often you’re playing which hands you’ve won, and your winning percentage. Many sites will also let you keep track of the hands that your opponents have played and what hands they have won with. In addition to online software, you more obsessive types can take notes on every little aspect and nuance of your table. I’ve known players who liked to keep track of every call, fold, and bet from each player, and which cards they showed as the ends played out. Of course, they were mocked mercilessly at the table. When you play online, your obsessive tendencies can be carried on in private.

Reaching for the River

In Texas Hold ‘Em poker , the final fifth card shown on the table is known as the “river.” Few good casino online players actually ever make it to the river because they fold when their pocket cards do not connect with the flop. But when your pocket cards are good, then most likely you will see and bet the river. The question is, how much do you bet at that point?

To calculate a river bet, you must determine just how likely it is that your hand is going to win. If you know you have the nuts, such as quads or the best full house, then you want to make a bet that will get called to make a good profit. But when you are unsure if your hand is best, your bet calculation has to be based on whatever edge you believe you might hold over your opponents. A raise to your bet means you could be beat holding a disastrous second-best hand.

Some poker pros advocate betting a fixed percentage - perhaps half the pot or even matching it. By making your bet roughly the same percentage of the pot every time you bet the river, your online poker hand becomes harder to read. Opponents can’t tell if your river bets represent the nuts, a bluff or second-best because your bets are always roughly the same compared to the pot.

My family and I play for our team (the “Strykers”) comprised of a league for our company’s department of communications here in Las Vegas. I chime in with guidance to all bowlers on the web and in the pro shop. Also, I have to give a shout out to my teammates at the center.

Online Poker Players

When you play online poker at a public casino online, the difference is huge. You need to be aware that there are many things that you need to consider when you choose to play with a bunch of players that you don’t know. First and foremost, you need to realize that you’ll be playing with a certain few types of people. The first kind of online poker player that you’ll encounter is the recreational player. These folks don’t generally care about winning and losing. They are there to have fun, and if they win, it’s just a pleasant bonus. If you can find yourself at a table of these guys, you’ll be sitting pretty. The recreational players don’t take the game too seriously, and they tend to play much more loosely. They’ll play a lot of hands that are less than ideal, so you can feel comfortable betting against them if you’ve got a decent hand. The next kind that you’ll find in a public game is the house regular. These guys are the players who frequent the club that you play at, and they’ll comprise the bulk of the players that you’ll meet in a public online poker game.
